“Spiritual growth is the process of replacing lies with truth.”

Rick Warren

Does truth still exist?

Of course it does, but there has been and always will be a fight for truth. The personal journey of inward transformation is also known as sanctification. Sanctification requires revelation. As Rick Warren writes, “The Spirit of God uses the word of God to make us all like the Son of God.”

Do you believe the Bible as being truth? This makes all the difference.

When God speaks, things change. God has spoken and continues to speak through his word, the Bible. I used to have such a negative perspective toward to the Bible. I held this view without even reading it for myself, which is crazy but so typical for many of us. Taking personal responsibility and not relying on second-hand opinion, I came to experience the Bible as alive and active.

“God’s word generates life, creates faith, produces change, frightens the devil, causes miracles, heals hurts, builds character, transforms circumstances, imparts joy, overcomes adversity, defeats temptation, infuses hope, releases power, cleanses our minds, brings things into being, and guarantees our future for eternity!”

Rick Warren – The Purpose Driven Life.

We all need nourishment to sustain our days, the Word of God is nourishment. There are too many believers living spiritually malnourished attempting to outwork purpose.

Here are three activities to abide in God’s Word:

  • Accept its authority. Let God’s word be the basis from which live, our true north. Seek council for decisions, ideas for creativity and wisdom for life. Let it be the guide for each step that we take.
  • Assimilate its truth. Here’s how – receive it, read it, research it, remember it, and reflect on it. Think of your mind as soil and the word as seeds of new life. Let it take root and flourish. If you haven’t yet, set aside time each day to abide in the Bible. Don’t be unrealistic with the time, don’t set an overly ambitious goal either. Start with 5 minutes and be consistent.
  • Apply its principles. Let’s not just intellectualise the word, let’s do something with it. We lose the potency of God’s word when it remains dormant. My application of the Bible is more likely when I am connected with other people on the same path. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of belonging in a small group of fellow Jesus followers. Join with people desiring to live God’s truth.

Ask yourself the question: What has God already called me to act on that I haven’t started yet?

Go do that.

Summary:

Remember – The truth transforms me.

Key Bible Verse – “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NLT.

Pray – Father, as I open your word today, I ask by your Spirit that you speak to me. Teach me, advise me, strengthen me and shape me to be my true created self.

Much love

Bevan
