What is the way you see life?

“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

Anais Nin

What’s your life metaphor? If you had to describe life in a saying, what would it be? “Life’s a party, just have fun” or for all the movie buffs … “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get next.”

If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.”

Luke 16:10

We start with God and this means starting with God’s word, the Bible. I used to think of the Bible as a book of rules and regulations, something that would make my life smaller. To me it was boring and irrelevant. Now, I have come to read it through eyes of faith. It’s no longer an irrelevant book, it’s a source of life. It’s wisdom and poetry and guidance and truth.

Here’s how the Bible metaphors life:

  • Life is a test.
  • Life is a trust.
  • life is a temporary assignment.

A test: words like trials, temptations, refining, and testing occur over 200 times in the Bible. A Test reveals and develops character. God, ever present, has eyes to see the way we respond to people, problems, success, conflict, illness etc. We will be tested by major changes, delayed promises, unanswered prayers and undeserved criticism.

“I have noticed God tests my faith through problems, tests my hope by how I handle possessions, and tests my love through people.”

Rick Godwin

Nothing is insignificant in life.

God will never test us beyond what his grace can sustain us. His grace is sufficient in our weakness.

A trust: All that we have is simply a trust. This is the principle of stewardship. What I have is not really mine and can be taken away at any point. Our responsibility is to be a steward. God created everything and we are invited to care for it. A part of our purpose today is to do well with what God has entrusted us.

“The one who manages the little he has been given with faithfulness and integrity will be promoted and trusted with greater responsibilities. But those who cheat with the little they have been given will not be considered trustworthy to receive more.”

Luke 16:10 TPT

Remember: Life is a test and a trust.

Key Bible verse: Luke 16:10

Pray: Father, may I develop character through the test I’m currently facing.

I hope you’re seeing a little differently today than you did yesterday.
