“God wants a family, and he created you to be a part of it.”
Rick Warren
This is the second major purpose for our life. God is building a family and he is inviting us to be a part of it. God is love and he values relationship. He is by very nature, relational.
God didn’t need a family – he desired one. Through our faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, God becomes our father. We become children of God and enter into a bigger eternal household of believers.
Our natural birth doesn’t make us God’s children, it’s our spiritual birth that does. When we place our trust in Jesus we are re-born, made new and adopted into God’s family.
When we cross that threshold of faith and enter a spiritual family, we also enter into eternal purpose with others.
We are designed for family.
A major purpose of our life is to find belonging in family and it is by being in family that we discover purpose. With this adoption into a spiritual family we receive incredible privileges. We now carry the name, the values and have access to an eternal inheritance. A child of God, that’s who we now are.
“And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.”
Galations 4:7 MSG
Being included in God’s family is the highest honour and greatest privilege. When those moments of doubt arise in your life and where you question your worth, just remember, you are a child of God.
A significant outward step of the inward decision of faith is water baptism. Why is this so important? It’s a public declaration of our participation in the family of God. This step is instrumental in solidifying the purpose of being formed for family.
Have you been baptised? Can I encourage you to seriously consider this step.
Summary:
Remember – You were formed for God’s family.
Key Bible Verse – “Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.” Ephesians 1:5 MSG
Pray – Thank you Father, thank you that I can call you my Father.
Have a great week ahead.
